September 12, 2020 marks 65 years since the Institute for the Study of Poliomyelitis, renamed in 1960 as the Institute of Poliomyelitis and Viral Encephalitis of the Academy of Medical Sciences, was organized by order of the Minister of Health of the USSR No. USSR.

In record time, technologies for the industrial production of vaccines against poliomyelitis and their large-scale production were created and mastered.

Simultaneously with the successful development of the polio eradication program, the introduction of this program into action and its further development, the Institute developed methods of protection against other viral diseases.

In 2016, on the basis of the Institute of Poliomyelitis, the Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immunobiological Preparations named after M.P. Chumakov RAS. The current generation of employees of our Center honors and develops the traditions of their predecessors.

At present, the Center named after M.P. Chumakova is a recognized leader in the field of medical virology, molecular biology of viruses, immunology, in the development of modern methods for diagnosing and preventing viral infections. The intellectual and technical potential of the Center makes it possible to cover the entire cycle of work on the creation of new immunobiological preparations – from the creation of a drug concept to the preparation of finished vaccines and their preclinical trials.

On the Day of the 65th anniversary of the Institute for the Study of Poliomyelitis, please accept my congratulations and wishes for good health, the implementation of your creative plans and ideas, well-being and happiness!
